Anyone thinking that LitespeedF3 had a ‘lucky turn’ with regard to speed on their ‘shake-down race’ weekend at Snetterton a couple of weeks ago may want to re-think. Testing again last week took a further 0.5 seconds off their lap time, making the only British manufacturer on the British F3 International Series grid a serious ‘player’ on the track.

‘We’re not there yet’, said Litespeed MD Nino Judge, ‘ but then again, who would expect us to? More important is the alacrity with which we respond and make sure that we are in a position to race, not only competitively, but as a driving force.’

Since its debut and subsequent media exposure, the team has attracted sponsors, drivers and private investors, who have recognised the potential of the engineering savvy behind this very British and technically committed team.

‘We are only interested in working with or joining with those of a similar ethos to us,’ said Judge. ‘If I said that Steve Kenchington – the Technical Director - will literally re-design a spanner if he feels that it will effect the performance of the car, it would explain the depth to which we will go. We have the capability and the know-how and we are serious about impacting F3 and beyond.’

Litespeed is a team that has racing in mind. Ignoring the pun, the company is ‘driven’ and what many would consider to be the ‘baby on the track’ is growing up very fast.

Litespeed will race again at Brands Hatch on 13th July with Formula Ford Champion Callum Macleod at the helm.

The team is in discussion with a number of international drivers to take on their second and third cars for the 2009 season, which they intend to enter in  National and possibly International classes.

Litespeed F3’s R1 racing car was born in 2005 from a pure engineering base with no compromise and delivered by the ATR Group, which was specifically responsible for the development and manufacturing of the Porsche Carrera GT, the Ferrari Enzo, and the Bugatti Veyron.
The skill of its creators lay in producing literally the world’s best sports, road, and racing cars by applying revolutionary design techniques and innovations, which, in the case of Litespeed’s R1, has created potentially the best F3 racing car on the grid.
In 2006, Litespeed’s R1 underwent a full aero upgrade, which produced phenomenal results particularly on high-speed tracks such as Nurburgring in Germany, where it attained pole position. By having autonomy on suspension geometry and layout, Litespeed’s R1 also has a slow-speed cornering advantage over most F3 cars due to its set-up capabilities.
The racing car’s un-compromised carbon fibre lightweight design and minimal frontal area therefore means it pushes the aerodynamic envelope, giving unrivalled racing speed and handling.
